their GPS tag alerts the office,

and staff get to watch every camera along their route a live.

Next weekend, it is the DARPA Robotics challenge,

in California with their robots.
The mission is to complete a series of
very human tasks with minimal human help.
The aim is to accelerate development of robots which can
assist humans in dealing with natural and man made disasters.

Hubo needs to find and close a gas valve,
use a drill to cut a hole, pull a handle,
push a button, and fight through rough 【認識：terrain】.
The aim is to complete the course in the fastest time.
Anything under 35 minutes puts them in the running to
win the $2 million prize.

It has not been realistic in the past,
but combined with fast Internet speeds in Korea,
it is easier than ever to stream data and follow targets.

Techwin's goal is to use these artificial intelligence robots
make people working in dangerous enviroments safer,
taking away tasks that put humans in danger.

I don't think AI is ready for the outside yet,
but that is why I'm here.

You can't really talk about South Korea without mentioning
North Korea. It's just over there behind the hills,
through this barbed wire. In fact, you can see the remains
of a train line and bridge that used to connect the two.
Before the way【war?】, of course, when it was destroyed.
As was this train. It's amazing to think you have such an
advanced nation here, what next door to a country
full of poverty and repression.
But there is a flow between the two still,
people do make it out of North Korea. And,
information is getting in.
David Lee has met activists trying to
get that information into North Korea by going over the border.
「皆さんも韓国のことを話に挙げる上で北朝鮮無しに言及することは
出来ませんよね。ちょうど、背後のすぐそこ、

We've gathered at this rendezvous point in a car park near Seoul.
Soon, we will be heading into the night
and towards the North Korean border.
Activists are planing to literally float balloons into the country,
carrying bags stuffed full of USB sticks and DVDs.
They hope this basic technology can reach ordinary North Koreans,
and educate them about the outside world.

Around 1000 people escaped North Korea every year.
Technology is vital.
Smuggled phones provide a connection to the outside world,
while having access to foreign TV and films
can expose the regime's lies about life beyond North Korean borders.

Lately, technology【音声認識：text also】 has been
the dictate the dictator's most devastating weapon.
This man says his former students have gone on to fight
North Korea's elite hacking unit, known simply as bureau 121.

It is among hundreds of DVDs packaged
and flown over the border via the balloons.

After 30 minutes of waitng around,
Mr Lee suddenly tells us police visited him earlier.

He also says the wind conditions aren't right.
A wayward balloon could hurt the cause.
We are left without seeing the balloons go up.
Days later, the activists sent secret footage of
what they say was a successful launch.
Many, including South Korean authorities,
worried that what they are doing is putting lives at risk.
Others argue that USB peace and DVDs are too insignificant
to alter the huge problems the country faces.
The passionate campaign is here both think they are,
one balloon at a time, chipping away at a brutal regime.

［後書き2：HuboとメタルギアとAI］
Huboが階段を上る姿は“メタルギア”を思い起こさせる動作です。
機械的な動作とはいえ、物の識別・判断が可能なロボットとしては、
今後も十分に期待の持てる“物”だと思います。“物”の領域から
出るためにはAIの技術革新が不可欠です。今回取り扱われたHuboは
AIというよりか機械工学の向きが強いため、私個人としては、未来
を彷彿とさせるロボットには見えませんでした。しかし、機械工学
としては今後も注目に値する価値ある物だと思います。
個人的な見解として、AI（人工知能）は少なくとも100年以内には
出てこないものと見ています。勿論、“AI”と判断する基準に寄っ
ても見方が変わるのでしょうが、現状のロボットのプログラムは、
人間が処理のエンドループが成立するようにコマンドを組んでいる
だけです。現在の工学技術全てを結集させたとしても、命令処理を
超えて1+1=0と出力可能なロボットやAIと言えるプログラムは存在
しません。現状最もAI研究に近い分野は、脳科学・脳医学といった
機械工学とは離れた分野です。結局は人間を模した形にすることが
人々が思い描くロボットへの早道となるため、人体実験を通じて脳
の構造を完璧に把握する研究者でも現れない限り、AIの実現は不可
能です。私はこの手の分野・話題は好きな方ではあるものの、“期
待”と“現実”が酷くかけ離れた分野となっているため、スペンサ
ーのように素直に喜ぶことが出来ません。
［後書き3：遠からずAIの見識が混ざるゲーム］
ロボットやAIといった分野に直接的に関わるゲームとは言えませ
んが、PS3の“ニーアレプリカント”はストーリーラインがAIの考
え方や見方を混ぜています。魂を持たない人間のコピーが人間らし
い感情を発現したとき（させたとき）、どのような見識・世界観と
なるのかを描いた作品です。Amazonの商品リンクを添付しますが、
手に入れるのであればAmazonに拘らず安いお店を探しましょう。
