There are now over seven billion people
milling about the Earth
and current predictions have us hitting eight billion

Each year over two million people attend 【Hajj】
and being able to control the flow of the crowd
could prevent another stampede from occurring in the future.

but it's becoming increasingly high-tech.
A(couple of)weeks ago, we looked at how one company
had developed a【sensor】that could be placed on the door
of any business,
handy if you own a shop or restaurant
and want to analyse when your customers arrive
and（of course,）when they exit.

Kumbhaton is an initiative to find solution
to problems like crowd management and
other issues during Nashik Kumbha Mela 2015.
The program is initiated by Sunil Khandbahale,
an innovative entrepreneur, and Ramesh Raskar,
head of Media Lab at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

"Kumbhaton"は、"Nashik"で開催される
"Kumbha Mela 2015"のような
群衆管理に伴う問題解決の率先となる企画。
潜在性を持ったその企画は
"Sunil Khandbahale"氏によるもので、
その革新的な企業家と、MITのMedia labを率いる
"Ramesh Raskar"氏によって事業が行われている。

群衆管理を目的に行われている事業企画の1種です。
群衆問題は場所を選ばず発生します。度重なる事故
を契機にインフラ対策を施していたにも関わらず、
再び事故が発生しました。他国の巡礼者が含まれて
いたことから、国際問題の火種になり兼ねない事態
にまで進行しています。最新情報によれば、今回の
事故の死者数は1,300以上で過去最多とされていま
す。このような人災をテクノロジーで解決しようと
試みる企画が"Kumbhaton"です。
余計な解釈・視方として伏字とします。群衆問題と
言えば"David Duckenfield"氏の事件が7月にBBCから
挙がっています。1989年発生の"人災"として記録さ
れる事件です。不思議なもので、問題に人が関与す
れば"事件"、関与しなければ"事故"に分類されます。
群衆問題として視るなら同じ事象であるにも関わら
ず、その分類次第で世論（特にメディア）の関心は
"責任"か"対策"に綺麗に別れます。この手の問題の
対策に行使力を持つ人間が、世論に左右されること
無く"対策"に身を乗り出しているかどうかで、国家
の在り方（行く末）も変わります。勿論、私達一般
人も注意を払うべき問題（捉え方）です。

先週の話題に続き、電気信号で人の筋肉を動すことに
焦点を充てた話題です。先週は麻痺を負った男性の足
を電子装置が交感神経の補助をする研究が取りあげら
れていました。今回の話題は健常者の足を意図的に動
かすことに狙いを定めた企画です。放送で扱っていた
ように、装着者を思い通りに動かす段階には到達して
いません。元は理学療法の装置として、その可動性を
推し量る目的でピックアップされた話題なのでしょう。

"睡眠中の心拍数が測れる"不思議なFTです。番組では
他に腰に装着する"POLAR H7 HEART RATE SENSOR"、
耳の内部に光を当てて計測する"JABRA PULSE"、そし
て従来型の腕にはめる製品として"Garmin Forerunner
225"や"Fitbit Charge HR"がピックアップされました。
全てのFT製品に共通することは"必携とは言い切れない"
点でしょう。番組の結論のように健康に対するモチベー
ションのバロメーターとして利用する分には有効に機能
しますが、関心の薄い人にとっては意味の無い製品です。
必携製品になるためには、この系統端末独自の"異色"と
言い切れる機能を持たせることでしょう。

ブラックプールの乗馬にペイメント、そんなことに驚く
私は既に時代遅れなのかもしれません。指輪にチップを
内蔵し、クレジットカードの代用品として機能する新た
なタイプの製品です。ファッション製品としてピックア
ップされている模様を番組で扱っていました。

水の痕跡が発見され話題となった火星を題材にした映画
が2016年公開の"The Martian"です。メイキングの一部が
既に挙がっています。番組のインタビューで話題に挙がっ
ていたのは、バイザーの反射です。バイザーを付けたまま
の撮影は撮影環境が映り込み、観ている側を幻滅させます。
作品性を落さないために特殊効果でバイザーを再現してい
るのだと、番組内で制作者が語っていました。ハリウッド
と偽画像では全く企画規模が違いますが、偽物を本物に見
せる（魅せる）ための作業工程は気が遠くなる程手間の掛
かるものです。そういった観点から作品を愉しむことも、
映画の醍醐味の1つと言えるでしょう。
＜追記 2015/10/12＞
比較尺度を誤っているため、少し追記・訂正します。
合成画像と映像では全く尺度が異なるものです。以前
の放送でフルCG作成を単独で行った場合、映像1秒に
丸3日、72時間以上時間が掛かるのだと製作者が語っ
ていました。勿論、CG映画と実写CG加工は別物です
が、何れにせよ合成画像との比較には無理があります。
中途半端の知ったかぶりを避けるため、追記しました。
